Sway Allstars popped over to the beautiful city of Seattle last week to welcome Virgin Atlantic to Seattle.
The first night was a drinks reception put on by the Seattle Tourist Association to welcome Virgin to Seattle. Virgin Atlantic has started daily flights to Seattle and to celebrate and publicise this they had a high-profile inaugural flight, full of the Press and people in the travel industry.
Some of the band flew out the day before and the guests flew out that day, checked in to the hotel and then came to the party (which was over by 9:30pm due to jet lag!). Sir Richard Branson made a speech and then three of us Richard Cole on guitar, TJ Davis singing and David Brooks on piano performed background music while everybody mingled. The rest of the band arrived later, including Jai Amore and Polly Pearce.
The Inaugural Flight party were taken on a tour of Seattle, again to publicise the new flight route. Then in the evening was Virgin’s own party at the Q Nightclub in the fashionable Capitol Hill area. Anybody who’s anybody in Seattle were at the party, where Sir Richard greeted guests, before making a speech.
Virgin had flown British singer song-writer Raye (who co-wrote and sings on You Don’t Know Me which is no. 3 in the charts at the moment). Raye did an acoustic set on the plane that was broadcast live on Facebook from the plane and then she did another acoustic set at the party before Sway Allstars went on.
Once the canapes and cocktails had been served, we went on and played for two hours – we couldn’t get off the stage! The place went wild and we had Virgin cabin crew and local industry guests on the dance-floor until the party was over.
